Mr. Riley, I just bought your DVD and just wanted to write and tell you that I think it's an amazing educational resource. It's given me plenty to work on in addition to your other materials (which I've owned for a number of years now). It's always a pleasure to watch you play! Hopefully, I'll have the chance to meet with you in person. It would be the highest of honors to study with you at MSM after I finish my bachelor's in jazz!

John, Congrats on the Master Drummer DVD, it's an extremely valuable tool for so many of us. I thought it would be great if you could share your top 10 or 20 jazz recordings from the greats....... All the best,

John, I am a drum teacher and have observed that many young drummers want to play their bass drums with the heal up and whole leg for more volume. Most are unable to play fast tempi that way and they don't have the control and shown by Colin Bailey. But I have noticed more that anything is they leave the beater on the head, thus killing the sound and resounce of the drum. That is like hitting the snare drum with a stick and leaving it on the head. I try to teach them to do the same things with their feet than they do with hands.

been working with Steve Houghton's book The Drumset Soloist trying to get my soloing chops a little better(never really liked soloing or trading) and i find that i tend to drag a bit when trading 4's and 8's. Is there anything i can do to help this tendency? thanks for the help
