Hey Mr. Riley You came to my school last year in and played with my jazz ensemble. I recently purchased your books and dvd and I wanted to thank you for challenging me and inspiring me to take my playing to the next level. I will be moving to NYC in a year and I will make sure to come visit you at the Village Vanguard.

It was a great pleasure to finally pay a visit to the Village Vanguard and hear you play with the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra on my recent trip to New York. I sent Darryl Pellegrini a note and he wrote how you recommended him for Woody Herman's gig, etc. All the best!

Hi John, just want to say Beyond Bop has totally changed my playing, until now, using all 4 limbs for druming was a foreign concept to me. By the way anybody reading this post should immediately click over to Amazon and buy the book, trust me, I make reccomendations for a living. Ok, page 16, line 5 is killer, the one that sounds like an inverted Waltz from hell, awesome. Spent 3 weeks on this 1 line, and it's starting to click. Question, how can this line not make the audio portion ? If you need help learning this one , call me LOL. Anyway, thank you for ALL of your publications, You are truly the master, keep up the great work. Mike

Hello John: I just read the sad news about Joe Morello's passing. The article you wrote on Joe in Modern Drummr several years back I still have in my library, it was superb. In January 1963 I attended the Dave Bruebeck Quartet's first Montreal performance. Joe's playing was marvellous and following the show my sax freind Peter Darlington and I went around back stage and helped the group load up their van. We took Joe down the street to hail a cab back to the Mount Royal Hotel. He was a great man, very warm and engaging. I was fortunate to see Joe again several times in Montreal with the Dave Bruebeck Quartet and with his own quartet. Joe, Paul, Eugene and Dave all signed my program back stage in January 1963 which I still have in my music library today. I have been a hobby drummer for over 50 years having sudied in Montreal years ago with one of Henry Adler's Montreal students, Guy Parent. John, would you if time permits please pass on my sincerest sympathy to Joe's family. Thank you for taking the time to read through my message. Peter
