Hey John, we met for a lesson over the summer at MSM and I really got a lot out of it. This question is completely unrelated to what we did but I thought you might be the guy to ask. I love Elvin's style and have been checking him out extensively. I love to hear drummers be melodic in there solos( play the melody of the tune). I feel like Elvin is a master at this but I have to say its hard for me to hear. Are there any specific solos that come to mind for you where this is more evident? Do you have any unique ways to approach Elvin when referring to this? I mentioned soloing, but time keeping in general would be much appreciated too. Thanks for your time, Josh

John, you have a most interesting itinerary. It was great to be part of the Sligo Jazz Project 2013 and have you share your expertise with aspiring drummers like me. By this and your patient encouragement you have inspired me to work towards "stickability" in both senses! I am working my way through your book, "The art of Bop Drumming", with new enthusiasm. It was also great to hear you playing with the other world class musicians. I hope to see you in Sligo next year. Until then - take care and best wishes. Alex

Hi John, huge fan. In your short clip entitled "Classic Solo Phrases, Max Roach",when you double the tempo are you using double strokes? You are an amazing inspiration, thanks. Pete
