I have a question regarding the 16th note ideas in your one beat phrases. At what tempo do the 16th notes lose the swing feel? Is it crucial that they are swung when soloing? I am just curious if they would sound out of place in music if they were straight at slower tempos.Thank you and have a pleasant day. |

| Hello John, quick question regarding your implied time 2 over 3 in 4/4. Right hand does dotted quarters and left foot does 2 and 4. All notes will have a swung feel under 270/280( quarter note) when the right hand lands on the ands; and all of the notes that land on the ands will have have a straight feel above 270/280? I ask because when swung it does not have the smooth perfect spacing as a quarter/half note triplet would have . For example,

| Hello John,
I'm a beginning jazz drummer and i have a question regarding the swing eight notes. If I'm doing swing eights on the ride and I'm going to accent thew "ands" of beats two and four on the snare then will the accents on the snare be in unison with the last swung note on the ride? I find this very difficult to do while doing swung eights on the ride and find it much easier when i use quarter notes on the ride and switch back to eights when not doing the snare accents on those off beats. I hope this is clear enough. I thank you either way even if you are too busy to respond. |
